Ellerstina, Campeón en Hurlingham

Followed by large numbers of people in the stands, on Saturday 28/10 on court 1 of the organizing club, Ellerstina Johor was consecrated two-time champion of the Hurlingham Club Open Championship, after beating Alegría Land Rover by 16-14. Thus, in the 124th version of this contest, the Zeta stayed with The Ayrshire Cup; while Alegría had to settle for the John Ravenscroft Cup.
After a smooth start and study between both teams, Alegría was a hurricane in the second set. With enormous attitude, speed in the horses and authority to win the throw-ins, the magenta team managed a partial 5-1 to be ahead by 6-2 and mark the ground. The men in black were nervous, deconcentrated and disorganized in their game, while Alegría fought in all sectors and won all the divided bowls, with Hilario Ulloa as the standard of the fight and "Sapo" Caset effective in attack.
But after the third, the Zeta adjusted the marks, Facundo Pieres began to manage the game and managed to get his team to take a shot, although a goal by Canadian Mannix on the bell returned to give air to Alegría on the scoreboard.
With a "Polito" Pieres playing in a huge way, although still without the coupling of his three teammates, the Zeta went down 8-9 in the fifth chukker, where he fell "Facu" Pieres and had to leave his place to Lucas James.

In the seventh period, a great goal by Nicolàs Pieres (raised his level in the second half), led the triumph of Ellerstina, who had as a pillar "Polito" Pieres, who after the match confirmed that it was his best game since he played in Ellerstina.
Happiness, dignified runner-up who perhaps deserved better luck, but who will have a rematch in the 124th Argentine Open HSBC Polo Championship, which is only a week away ...

THE HEALTH OF FACU PIERES

The Javier Novillo Astrada trophy for the best player of the match went to Pablo Pieres, who received it from Eduardo "Taio" Novillo Astrada.
The Fair Play trophy, awarded by the Players Association and sponsored by Rio Uruguay Seguros, went to Gonzalo Pieres (h). The owner of the AAJP, Marcos Di Paola, gave it.
The AAP Prize for the Knight of the Pole went to Frederick Mannix (h) - delivered Cuneo Libarona and Fleitas-; While it was finally the turn of the horses, but this time there was unanimity: the Daniel Kearney Cup instituted by the club; and the AACCP and AAP awards went to Open Guillermina, played by Nicolás Pieres. Meanwhile, the champion of the tournament for the Chamber of Deputies Cup will face the 8th. of this general table for a place in the Triple Crown 2018, in the Promotion meeting.
Seguido por gran cantidad de gente en las tribunas, el sábado 28/10 en la cancha 1 del club organizador, Ellerstina Johor se consagró bicampeón del Campeonato Abierto del Hurlingham Club,tras vencer a Alegría Land Rover por 16-14. De esta forma, en la 124ª versión de este certamen, la Zeta se quedó con The Ayrshire Cup; mientras que Alegría debió conformarse con la Copa John Ravenscroft.
Tras un inicio parejo y de estudio entre ambos conjuntos, Alegría fue un huracán en el segundo parcial. Con enorme actitud, velocidad en la caballada y autoridad para ganar los throw-ins, el equipo magenta logró un parcial de 5-1 para quedar en ventaja por 6-2 y marcar el terreno. Los hombres de negro estaban nerviosos, desconcentrados y desordenados en su juego, mientras que Alegría luchaba en todos los sectores y ganaba todas las bochas divididas, con Hilario Ulloa como estandarte de la lucha y “Sapo” Caset eficaz en ataque.
Pero a partir del tercero, la Zeta ajustó las marcas, Facundo Pieres comenzó a manejar el partido y logró que su equipo se ponga a tiro, aunque un gol del canadiense Mannix sobre la campana le volvía a dar aire a Alegría en el marcador.
Con un “Polito” Pieres jugando de forma descomunal, aunque aún sin el acople de sus tres compañeros, la Zeta se puso 8-9 abajo en el quinto chukker, donde cayó “Facu” Pieres y debió dejarle su lugar a Lucas James.
Un gol abajo y sin su jugador más desequilibrante… ¿Alguien creía en el triunfo de Ellerstina?
Pero a pesar de lo que se escuchaba en las tribunas, la Zeta, con cambios posicionales y comandada por “Polito”, a pura garra y corazón logró el empate y pasó al frente por primera vez en todo el partido al iniciarse el sexto chukker. Desde allí, el encuentro se hizo de ida y vuelta, desordenado y vibrante, con empates sucesivos y mucho suspenso.
En el séptimo período, un gran gol de Nicolàs Pieres (levantó su nivel en la segunda mitad), encaminó el triunfo de Ellerstina, que tuvo como pilar a “Polito” Pieres, quien tras el partido confirmó que fue su mejor partido desde que juega en Ellerstina.
Alegría, dignísimo subcampeón que quizás mereció mejor suerte, pero que tendrá revancha en el 124º Campeonato Argentino Abierto de Polo HSBC, que está a sólo una semana de comenzar…

LA SALUD DE FACU PIERES
A pesar del fuerte golpe que se dio, todos los estudios que le hicieron en la Clínica Los Arcos de Palermo dieron perfectos. Igualmente, Facundo quedará en observación hasta mañana. Seguramente tenga que descansar unos días, pero estaría en perfecto estado de salud. Sólo dolores por la caída.
CEREMONIA DE PREMIACIÓN. Luego de las palabras del presidente del Hurlingham Club, Sr. Fernando Kelly, el finalista Alegría Land Rover recibió la Copa Ravenscroft y las réplicas de manos del Intendente de Hurlingham, Juan Zavaleta; mientras que The Ayrshire Cup fue entregada al equipo campeón de Ellerstina Johor por la esposa del Embajador de Gran Bretaña, Sra. Martina Kent, junto al titular del Hurlingham Club.
Luego, la Subcomisión de Polo de la institución organizadora (Marcelo Smith, Fernando Pereyra, Rafael Cúneo Libarona y Federico Fleitas) premió a los campeones con los históricos sacos.
El trofeo Javier Novillo Astrada al mejor jugador del partido fue para Pablo Pieres, quien lo recibió de manos de Eduardo “Taio” Novillo Astrada.
El trofeo Fair Play, entregado por la Asociación de Jugadores y auspiciado por Río Uruguay Seguros, fue para Gonzalo Pieres (h). Entregó el titular de la AAJP, Marcos Di Paola.
El Premio AAP al Caballero del Polo fue para Frederick Mannix (h) –entregaron Cúneo Libarona y Fleitas–; mientras que finalmente fue el turno de los equinos, pero en esta oportunidad hubo unanimidad: la Copa Daniel Kearney instituida por el club; y los premios AACCP y AAP fueron para Open Guillermina, jugada por Nicolás Pieres. “Nico” recibió la Copa y las mantas de manos de José Santamarina (h) por el Hurlingham Club; Santiago Ballester, titular de la AACCP; y Carlos Menéndez Behety, tesorero de la AAP.
