A PATH TO POLO...Polo is unique in that just about anyone can play at any stage in life. It is one of the few sports the whole family can play together on the same team. Often you will see three or more generations on the field playing together. In Argentina they say kids are “born with mallets in their hands”. While this is a slight exaggeration, children from polo families there are given a mallet to carry as soon as they can walk. This strategy has established the South American country as the premier source for the worlds best polo players. But it's never too late to start! Just because you weren't born with the last name Heguy or Pieres, with a mallet in your hand, or learned to ride before you could walk, doesn't mean you can't learn to play now. At OC Polo, we are fortunate to have youth players, adults of all ages and multi generations all participating together. Polo is truly a family affair. In our case we get to play with our dads, one spouse and hopefully our kids very soon!

USPA PACIFIC COAST CONGRESSIONAL CUPAfter a very exciting weekend of fast-paced polo, "My Sharonnas" emerged as the winners. Pictured left to right: Mila Slutzky, Ella Horton, Kelli Newton and Blake Bertea. Kelli received the MVP honors and Best Playing Pony was awarded to Tatu, played by Joanna Faulkner and owned by OCPC. In the consolation, father/daughter duo of Dave Schuberth and Heather Perkins lead their team to victory.
UMPIRE RULES REVIEWUmpire Ronnie Hayes of the Umpires, LLC hosted a rules review session covering umpiring techniques from field positioning to ball placement and different types of penalties. Additionally, he partnered with a club member to umpire the weekend's tournament games. Hayes commented, "The players at OC Polo Club already have such a strong focus on safety. It was great to see everyone so eager to learn more about officiating the game correctly".
