WELLINGTON, FL—April 5, 2013---Argentine Open Most Valuable Player Mariano Aguerre will lead Longfield Farm Polo Team into Saturday’s World Cup Polo 16-Goal Championship final against Catamount at Palm Beach Polo.
Gates open at 2 p.m. and game time is 3 p.m.
After a two-year hiatus, Wellington-based Longfield Farm Polo Team returned to polo and wasted no time in challenging for a major title.
Aguerre, a nine-time winner of the Argentine Open and three-time World Cup winner, will be joined by team captain Duke Buchan, 6-goaler Facundo Obregon and 16-year-old sensation Juancito Bollini, a senior at Wellington High School.
Aguerre is rated at 9 goals in the U.S. and was raised to 10-goals in Argentina after his Ellerstina team knocked off six-time defending champion La Dolfina, 12-10, in the final of the 119th Argentine Open in Palermo in front of 10,000 fans. Aguerre was joined by teammates and brothers-in-law, Facundo, Gonzalito and Nico Pieres.
Buchan calls Aguerre and himself the “old men” of the team while he refers to Bollini and Obregon as the “young guns.”
“It’s such an honor to play with such a talented group of players and horses,” said Buchan, CEO of West Palm Beach-based Hunter Global Investors L.P.
“We are particularly excited to help out with Palm Beach Polo’s support of the Wounded Warrior Project,” Buchan said. “We cannot think of a better cause giving back to those wounded in service while protecting our freedom.”
Proceeds from the game benefits the Wounded Warrior Project which helps to honor and empower wounded service members across the nation.
Wounded Warrior Project helps to raise awareness and enlists the public’s aid for the needs of injured service members; helped injured service members aid and assist each other; and provides direct programs and services to meet the needs of injured service members.
During halftime, there will be an exotic car display and halftime parade hosted by Manheim Palm Beach.
Because of heavy rains the final has been moved from Cypress Field to Field 8 off Lake Worth Road. All general admissions and spectators should enter through Lake Worth Road. All trailers should enter through Southfields.
